Prompted by a surge in summer travel, London's Heathrow Airport has asked airlines to stop selling summer tickets and has imposed a limit of 100K people per day allowed to depart the airport on flights.
Heathrow was Europe's busiest airport before COVID. The cap, which will remain in effect from July 12 through Sept. 11 is meant to minimize disruption and ensure passenger safety.
These new restrictions are ridiculous and Heathrow has gotten it wrong. Why should the airport tell airlines to stop selling tickets? Airlines have been making strident efforts to reduce the burden on passengers. Heathrow is simply calculating airport profits to the detriment of the travelers and airlines.
Thanks to Heathrow's intervention, passengers will be able to travel without the painful long lines, cancellations, and delays. There have been unpleasant scenes during the chaos at the airport - this policy will ultimately reduce volume and make for a more orderly experience for all.
