Two groups of anonymous FBI agents filed federal lawsuits in Washington, DC on Tuesday in an attempt to prevent the Justice Department (DOJ) from compiling and potentially releasing information about employees who worked on investigations into the Jan. 6 Capitol riots and Trump-related cases.
This comes as the FBI recently provided the DOJ with a list of approximately 5K employees who worked on Jan. 6 investigations, identifying them by employee ID numbers — rather than names — along with their current titles and office assignments.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove had ordered the FBI to compile a list of all employees who worked on Jan. 6 cases, and thousands of FBI employees were required to complete questionnaires about their involvement in these investigations.
The FBI must identify individuals who acted with political bias in their investigations so public trust in federal law enforcement can be restored. The FBI has been politically weaponized during Democratic administrations and accountability measures are needed to ensure fair, impartial law enforcement.
This effort to identify and remove FBI personnel who worked on Jan. 6 cases is unlawful retaliation against career professionals who were simply doing their jobs according to established procedures and federal law. This action threatens both individual safety and institutional integrity.
