The thoughts of NYC's leaders go out to those injured by this unacceptable act of violence. The actions of the first responders to treat the victims and the police to quickly apprehend the suspect are greatly appreciated.

Establishment-critical narrative

This is a horrifying attack but thankfully, all the injured are expected to survive. Nonetheless, many questions remain to be answered on whether the suspect slipped through the cracks of New York's porous mental health system. It is not enough to respond to such events if failing welfare services are enabling them.
