A major wildfire erupted Wednesday afternoon near Ierapetra on the Greek island of Crete, forcing the evacuation of more than 1,500 people from hotels, homes, and tourist accommodations as gale-force winds reaching up to 50 mph spread flames rapidly across three fronts.
