Yuri Ushakov is a Russian senior diplomat and foreign-policy aide. Born in Moscow in 1947, he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and began his diplomatic career in 1970. From 1999 to 2008, he served as Russia’s Ambassador to the United States. Since May 2012, he has been Assistant to the President of Russia for Foreign Policy. Over decades, Ushakov has held senior positions — including Deputy Foreign Minister — and remains a key Kremlin voice shaping Russian international affairs.
