John Charles Eastman (born 1960) is an American lawyer, legal scholar, and former professor. He is the founding director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence at the Claremont Institute, a conservative think tank. He previously served as a law professor and dean at Chapman University School of Law, and held a clerkship for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas early in his legal career. Eastman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dallas, a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School, and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. He is known for his writings and legal work on constitutional law and for his role in advising efforts to challenge the certification of the 2020 U.S. presidential election results, which led to professional disciplinary action and his disbarment in California in 2026.
