    The Facts

    • Aeroflot, Russia's flagship airline, announced on Saturday that it will stop all international flights, except to Belarus, starting March 8 for reasons related to sanctions.

    • In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, several countries have banned Russian flights from their airspace, and non-Russian airlines, like Delta, have ended code-sharing partnerships.

    The Spin

    Narrative A

Sanctions work and the ones against Russia's aviation industry are proof. This will go a long way toward plunging Russia's economy into a deep recession that could affect Putin's attitude towards his invasion.

    Narrative B

Economic sanctions might ground some Russian planes and impact grocery store shelves, but they'll never work to thwart the invasion. The only thing that will work is more military assistance to the Ukrainian army.

    Establishment-critical narrative

It's hypocritical to impose sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, but not on the US for invading Iraq for equally unjustified reasons, or on Israel for invading and annexing Arab lands.
