The Facts
A Colorado inmate has become the first human in the US to test positive for the H5N1 strain of Avian Influenza, or "Bird Flu." The inmate contracted the infection while on work release at a local farm.
The patient reported fatigue as their only symptom and is being isolated and treated with the influenza antiviral drug oseltamivir, also known as tamiflu. 10 people who were in contact with him are being monitored.
