    The Facts

    • A series of blasts were heard in the Russian border region of Belgorod early Wednesday. Regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said a fire broke out at an ammunition depot in the village of Staraya Nelidovka, adding that there were no reports of civilian casualties or destruction to residential properties.

    • Explosions were also reported in the inland Russian regions of Kursk and Voronezh. The source of the blasts cannot be confirmed at this stage.

    The Spin

    Establishment-critical narrative

The UK has been one of the most hawkish nations in its rhetoric and support of Ukraine since the war began. This latest move to encourage Ukraine to strike Russian targets only risks provoking further counter-attacks. Is this really a smart escalation?

    Pro-establishment narrative

Ukraine was a sovereign country living peacefully within its borders before Russia decided to launch its invasion. In war, you have to strike the opposition's logistics lines, fuel supplies and ammunition depots – Ukrainian attacks on Russian targets are both necessary and justified.

    Pro-Russia narrative

NATO and the US have ignored Russia's security concerns by breaking its promise not to expand eastward in return for German reunification. These concerns are legitimate and taking them seriously would have avoided the Ukraine tragedy.
