    The Facts

    • The House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 has subpoenaed Trump's White House trade adviser Peter Navarro.

    • In a statement, Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) alleged that Navarro has documents and information relevant to the committee's ongoing probe into the circumstances of the riots.

    The Spin

    Pro-Trump narrative

The House Committee is conducting a partisan witch hunt that is trampling over the legitimate claims of Executive Privilege asserted by Trump to protect his advisers who thought that they were offering confidential counsel to the president.

    Left narrative

Navarro's book contains a detailed confession of a far-ranging plot to overturn the results of a free and fair election and to stop -- for the first time in American history -- the peaceful transfer of power. Navarro waived any claims to privilege when he published his book, and even if he hadn't, SCOTUS has already rejected Trump's claims to Executive Privilege in these matters.
