The Facts
On Fri, Frank James pled not guilty in federal court to terrorism and other charges following last month's NYC subway mass shooting.
His court appearance comes one week after a grand jury issued a federal indictment for terrorism.
The Spin
Right narrative
James is the very definition of a terrorist. All too often the right gets labeled for acts of "domestic terrorism," but this phenomenon exists on the left too. Arson on federal buildings, courthouses, and general lawlessness are hallmarks of terrorism from the radical left, and James fits the textbook definition in this horrific tragedy.
Left narrative
The proliferation of guns is a root cause of these incidents. Research has proven that where there are more guns, there's more gun violence. Gun control laws work and, if anything, NYC and similar cities need to further tighten up their restrictions.
Cynical narrative
In incidents like the NYC subway shooting, both the right and left talk extensively about how to prevent these tragedies. But sadly their words don't translate into actions that actually curb the violence.
