    The Facts

    • On Mon., former Pres. Trump and his one-time VP, Mike Pence, held dueling events in Georgia for the two opposing GOP Gubernatorial primary contenders. Pence is backing the incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, while Trump has endorsed former Senator David Perdue.

    • Trump has accused Gov. Kemp of being "weak" and having let "liberals and RINOs... run all over him on election integrity." Kemp, however, has maintained an average 22-point lead in polls in spite of the comments by the former president.

    The Spin

    Democratic narrative

Kemp is perhaps Trump's top target in his vengeance campaign against Republicans who didn't bow to his election lies, and Pence's backing of the governor is his boldest and most unambiguous move to confront his former political patron.

    Pro-Trump narrative

Mike Pence was set to lose a Governor's race in 2016 before he was plucked up and his political career was salvaged. Desperate to chase his lost relevance, Pence is parachuting in to races, hoping someone is paying attention. Trump is a clear favorite for the Republican nominee and has proven to still be GOP kingmaker.
