The Facts

  • NY Supreme Court judge Arthur Engoron ruled Wed. that former Pres. Trump can be purged of contempt in AG Letitia James' civil fraud investigation of him and the Trump Org., which is suspected of inflating or deflating the value of assets for economic benefit.

  • Engoron said he reviewed additional documents and those, in addition to other conditions met - including paying a $110k fine and providing sworn statements about document retention at Trump Org. - satisfied the court. The AG's office agreed.

The Spin

Democratic narrative

This investigation is nearing its conclusion. Even if Trump Org. hasn't provided all the documents requested, there's evidence enough to go on, in addition to the upcoming testimony from the former president and his children.

Pro-Trump narrative

James' political witch hunt to dig up information that can be used in a parallel criminal investigation against Trump and his company must be halted the same way the contempt finding was lifted. This is a power grab by a power-hungry Democratic AG.
