Care home residents, over 75s and the clinically vulnerable are amongst groups of adults being offered a fourth COVID vaccine in the UK.
Up to 5m people are eligible and the Health Dept. says around 600k will be invited for an extra shot in the first week.
Although further vaccinations will help protect the public from the BA. 2 variant, Health Secretary Sajid Javid is responding complacently to the rising threat of COVID. He's said there is currently no cause for concern, yet infections among older people continue to increase and school leaders fear the effect of potential outbreaks on exam season.
The government and health services are responding effectively to the latest COVID variant. Spring boosters will top up the immunity of the most at risk and extra call handlers have been hired to facilitate the high uptake expected of the latest shot.
