The Facts

  • Rudy Giuliani, ex-lawyer of former Pres. Donald Trump, Friday became the last of 18 defendants to be served with a notice to appear in court as part of Arizona Attorney General (AG) Kris Mayes' case related to alleged election interference in the 2020 presidential election.

  • Giuliani's name had previously been withheld because he had not been served, as agents from Mayes' office spent two days in New York City while unable to locate that city's former mayor.

The Spin

Narrative A

It's ironic that as a prosecutor and mayor Giuliani built his reputation on creating a spectacle around criminal defendants — and now he's a criminal defendant creating a spectacle around himself. He could've avoided this by refraining from purposely avoiding the authorities. Instead, he's been served with more surely to come.

Narrative B

The Arizona AG's office's attempt to embarrass Giuliani and ruin his birthday party failed. He had an incredible time on his big night and the serving of his indictment was nothing but a minor distraction and a publicity stunt. Giuliani looks forward to being vindicated as the case plays out.
