The Facts

  • Israeli outlet Haaretz released a report on Wednesday alleging that Israeli forces are arbitrarily killing civilians in Gaza and, in most cases, counting the dead as combatants. The report cites several unnamed Israeli soldiers who reportedly served in Gaza.

  • Soldiers described arbitrary lines around the Netzarim Corridor, where Israeli forces cleared the population and established military posts. If someone crossed one of these lines, the sources alleged, they would be shot and killed. The soldiers added that stray dogs would often eat the bodies.

The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

It is simply undeniable that the war in Gaza has taken a terrible toll on its population, and the US is committed to alleviating that suffering. Nonetheless, baseless accusations of genocide are unhelpful. The only way to assist the Palestinians in Gaza is to find a cease-fire and resolution to this conflict through negotiations.

Pro-Israel narrative

The allegations of genocide against Israel are libelous and seek to invert Hamas' genocidal intent. The only act in this war that has been genocidal was Hamas' Oct. 7 massacres, with Israel taking constant precautions against killing civilians. The world expects Israel to accept terrorism and relinquish its defense, something it will never do.

Pro-Palestine narrative

The evidence of Israel's genocide in Gaza continues to grow, with its own soldiers even reporting their brutality toward the civilian population. Whether it be the arbitrary killings, the mass bombardment, or the deliberate destruction of water infrastructure, every action Israel has taken in Gaza has sought to destroy the population.
