The Facts

  • US Vice Pres. Kamala Harris' presidential campaign — and its affiliated party committees, including the Democratic National Committee (DNC) — have reportedly raised over $1B since Harris replaced Pres. Joe Biden as the party's nominee.

  • Although Harris' campaign didn't comment on the report, it previously revealed in an official filing that it finished August with $404M cash on hand. The campaign of former Pres. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, reported $295M in cash on hand in August.

The Spin

Democratic narrative

These numbers prove Harris, over the past few months, has managed to sustain the momentum and enthusiasm she generated when she first replaced Biden. Trump, who fashions himself a successful businessman, must be stewing over his fundraising deficit, even as he tries to raise cash by hawking shady merchandise.

Republican narrative

Fundraising skills are clearly overrated, as Harris, even with her campaign treasure chest, still can't shake Trump in the swing state polls. American voters don't care about how many rich people are willing to donate to Harris — all they care about is who will provide a better economy, which is the issue for which most people put their trust in Trump.
