The Facts

  • Former US Pres. Donald Trump filed a $10B lawsuit against CBS News in a Texas court on Thursday over the network's Oct. 6 "60 Minutes" interview with Vice Pres. Kamala Harris.

  • The lawsuit accuses CBS News of engaging in "partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion."

The Spin

Republican narrative

CBS News clearly engaged in news distortion by broadcasting an edited, deceitful, and manipulative interview of Kamala Harris. This brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 presidential election was made to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party by making its preferred candidate appear coherent and decisive. With all the fake news coming out of the network, CBS News should lose its license.

Democratic narrative

This ill-grounded, frivolous, and dangerous lawsuit violates First Amendment principles. It has been carefully filed in federal court, with only one Trump-appointed judge, because the GOP knows the judge will be inclined to rule in his favor. Instead of dragging CBS News to court, Trump should appear on 60 Minutes to confirm that the network follows the same editing principles for all interviews.
