    The Facts

    • A witness has implicated Trump's former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in the planning of the Jan. 6 rallies that converged into a breach of the US Capitol.

    • Scott Johnston, who helped plan the rally at the Ellipse, where Trump spoke that day, claims to have first-hand knowledge of the efforts of high-level Trump administration and campaign officials in planning the march on the Capitol.

    The Spin

    Pro-Trump narrative

The partisan Jan. 6 Committee is engaged in an anti-democratic, authoritarian witch-hunt. They continue to refuse to investigate the real failures of that day, which include Nancy Pelosi's failure to protect and secure the US Capitol.

    Left narrative

The Rally organizers knew that any effort to obtain permits for the march would be traced back to Trump, and they wanted to maintain deniability even as they planned and plotted for an insurrection. The links in the chain of responsibility are moving closer and closer to Trump himself. It's time for the DOJ to move forward with the contempt referral against Meadows.
