The government is right to act decisively against a proscribed group linked to violence, serious injuries, and criminal damage. National security must come before political theatre. Peaceful protest remains protected, but supporting an organization assessed as preparing for terrorism is not free speech but rather in aid of extremism. The law is clear, and enforcement is essential.
These mass arrests are a grave assault on free speech. Peaceful protesters, many of them elderly, are being detained for holding placards opposing genocide while the government continues to enable war crimes and human rights abuses in the Middle East. By conflating dissent with terrorism, the U.K. is eroding civil liberties and silencing those who dare to demand justice.
