The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Papua New Guinea is making active investments in protecting its economy and people. Being prone to earthquakes, the country is prioritizing the construction of resilient infrastructure that can handle the pressure of seismic events. These projects will mitigate the impact of future events and facilitate faster recoveries from natural disasters.

Government-critical narrative

Papua New Guinea’s disaster preparedness and emergency response, which are vital to saving lives, are unfortunately subpar. The country lacks the necessary road infrastructure, logistics and communication networks to handle natural disasters properly. The government must, therefore, urgently invest more to protect the country moving forward.
