Software company Adobe has released its Firefly Video Model to the public, offering artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video clips at 1080p resolution with a five-second duration.
The service is available through two subscription tiers: $9.99 monthly for 20 video generations and $29.99 for 70 generations, with a premium plan for high-volume users coming later this year.
Firefly Video Model integrates directly with Adobe's Premiere Pro software and includes features for extending or fixing existing footage, specifically designed for professional film and television production workflows.
The AI video generator race is pushing full steam ahead, and Adobe has only added to the excitement. For just pennies, anyone from independent hobbyists to major production companies can now create remarkable high-definition content. The video art industry will be revolutionized thanks to this continual progress.
While Adobe has certainly caught the public eye with its "pennies-on-the-dollar" advertising, Firefly is not worth its so-called "best value" option of $30 per month. Without even an unlimited tier option, customers should not open their wallets for a product that can only produce five-second videos.
While everyone is talking about AI, those who still wish to contain their humanity and use it to produce novel art shouldn't be discouraged. Not everything has been thought of yet, and AI won't be able to generate what it can't be trained on. Human artists are still needed in the world, and no amount of AI progress can change that.
