The Spin

Conservative Party narrative

Trudeau not only left office as a failure, he brought his party down with him. The Liberals, leaning too heavily on his personal appeal, abandoned their responsibility to Canadians — instead turning to divisive identity politics and other philosophies that have only served to undermine the needs of everyday Canadians. In addition, Liberal failures under Trudeau have led to the problems with Trump and the U.S. They'll have a steep climb before regaining any legitimacy, and until then should unequivocally be thrown out of office.

Liberal Party narrative

Trudeau may have had no choice but to step down, especially considering Trump's unprecedented attacks on him and the Canadian economy. However, he still deserves credit for giving the Liberal Party a shot at a reset with some new blood in leadership, as Carney's appeal seems to extend beyond Liberal voters. This election is more competitive than expected, and Trudeau can now enjoy his party's new era of success as he enters the next phase of his career.
