In spite of the EU's protestations, Kurti was backed precisely because of his resistance to Serbian attempts to create privileged ethnic arrangements in Kosovo, not despite it. This strength offers the Balkans precisely what it needs — a democracy with strong red lines that will not bend to external pressure.
