The Spin

Left narrative

Ciolacu's resignation reveals the cost of the government's recent failure. However, replacing him with a hard-right populist like Georgescu, appointed by presidential candidate Simion, would be a dangerous mistake. Romania stands at a crossroads: embrace democracy and EU values through runoff candidate Nicușor Dan or risk drifting toward nationalism, division, and international isolation.

Right narrative

Ciolacu's resignation proves what many Romanians already knew: the establishment is collapsing under its own weight. Despite attempting to silence Romania's democratic mandate for change through the courts last year, Simion's success shows that the people cannot be ignored. This could be the beginning of a long-overdue political realignment that finally puts Romania first.
