The Facts

  • Ukraine's Pres. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that he is willing to step down if it means the end of the conflict with Russia. "Yes. If it means peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to leave my post, I am ready. Another option is we could exchange this for NATO. If such conditions arise, immediately."

  • This comes after he said that Russia launched its largest drone assault since the war began, launching 267 unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine on Sunday, adding that Ukrainian forces intercepted 138 drones while 119 were disrupted through electronic warfare measures.

  • The overnight attack reportedly targeted multiple regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk, causing damage to residential buildings, a retirement home, and a church, and killing a civilian in Kryvyi Rih.

The Spin

Pro-Ukraine narrative

Russia is seeking a change of leadership in Ukraine so the Kremlin can install a puppet and accomplish that which it couldn't militarily. The unprecedented aerial terror attack on Ukraine highlights the need for Kyiv to strengthen its air defense capabilities immediately. Ukraine needs security guarantees to ensure that Russia can never deceive anyone again or bring death to peaceful nations.

Pro-Russia narrative

Ukraine is led by a defiant dictator who started the war with Russia and tricked the US into funneling aid into a war that couldn't be won. After three years of war, it's time he resigned and brought peace to the region. Russia's military operation only serves to protect against NATO expansion; it's Zelenskyy that's hindering the search for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
