British Steel could be nationalised as PM and chancellor consider ‘all options’
Guardian6 days
The steel industry is a critical component of our national infrastructure and security, and it must be preserved. With British Steel now owned by a Chinese company that could potentially shut down the plant permanently, government intervention is more important than ever. We need to defend Britain's industrial strengths and protect the thousands of jobs that communities rely on in steel manufacturing.
While recognizing the importance of maintaining steel production in the country, we must explore alternatives to government intervention. However, nationalization should be a last resort, as it could expose taxpayers to significant losses. British Steel is already underperforming and operating at a loss.
