The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

That a human rights advocate from Uganda serving as a UN judge and studying for a law PhD at Oxford University has been convicted of modern slavery is a slap in the face of global elites that love to lecture the world on human rights. Their sanctimonious halls are rotten to the core.

Pro-establishment narrative

While nothing justifies this crime, It should be noted that what is considered a crime in one society is seen as normal in another — this highlights the need for urgent action in Uganda, which must now draw a lesson from this conviction and implement protections for workers. This perspective should be put into consideration when sentencing Mugambe.
