The Rooney Rule is perfectly reasonable, as the NFL has made it crystal clear that it simply requires interviews. In a league where roughly 70% of players are Black but only three head coaches are, the rule clearly hasn't been enforced the way critics fear it would, and Goodell has outlined its legality and talent basis perfectly. That said, nine out of ten coaching vacancies this past cycle still went to white coaches, exposing why the NFL sought to encourage inclusive hiring in the first place.
