Israel prepared to roll out its post-war governance plan for Gaza,as Israeli forces entered Gaza's Shakoush and Shujaiya neighborhoods,the UN warned that 96% of Gaza is facing a food crisis,a report claimed that Israel is funding US operations to influence Americans on the Gaza war,and the US reportedly prepared to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon.Meanwhile, the Netherlands' Mark Rutte was confirmed as the next chief of NATO,the US and Russia's defense secretaries held their first call,the EU and Ukraine signed a security deal,and Russia blamed the US for a Ukrainian attack on Crimea.Elsewhere, the UK was accused of trying to suppress criticism of the United Arab Emirates' alleged role in supplying weapons to Sudan's militia,Kenya deployed security personnel to Haiti,and an army general in Bolivia was arrested after leading an alleged attempted coup.

World Politics

Maldives' foreign minister traveled to Washington,the Japanese emperor and empress visited the UK,and Iran and Bahrain agreed to resume diplomatic ties.This comes as Ursula von der Leyen was nominated for a second term as head of the European Commission,Iran's presidential election headed to a runoff,Azerbaijan decided to hold early parliamentary elections,and leaders of the UK's Conservative Party called for a ban on political gambling,as a Tory cabinet minister admitted to betting on the election date.Meanwhile, Russia banned 81 European media outlets,detained US journalist Evan Gershkovich's espionage trial began in Russia,and a US diplomat was found dead at a hotel in Ukraine's capital.Elsewhere, Taiwan warned its citizens not to travel to China,Germany passed legislation requiring citizenship applicants to support Israel,and Kenyan Pres. William Ruto withdrew planned tax reforms following deadly protests.

US Politics

Donald Trump and Joe Biden faced off in their first presidential debate,as Biden vowed to stay in the race,former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger endorsed the incumbent president,and Trump said he had decided on his running mate.This comes as Rep. Jamaal Bowman lost his Democratic primary in New York,Trump's gag order in the hush money case was partially lifted,and the judge overseeing the former president's classified documents case questioned the investigation's funding.Meanwhile, SCOTUS ruled that the US Dept. of Justice wrongly used a law to prosecute Jan. 6 rioters,as it backed the White House's efforts to combat misinformation on social media,and overturned a 1984 precedent to limit federal agencies' authority,and the Department of Homeland Security reported that an Islamic State affiliated network brought 400 people into the US.

Detained Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was freed,Biden granted clemency to dishonorably discharged LGBTQ+ veterans,and SCOTUS temporarily allowed emergency abortions in Idaho,as it agreed to hear a challenge to a Tennessee law banning gender-reassignment procedures for minorsand upheld a ban on sleeping outdoors.Meanwhile, UK Labour leader Keir Starmer said he opposes teaching gender ideology in schools,Afghanistan's Taliban was accused of sexually assaulting detained women,a report alleged that North Korea executed a man for disseminating K-pop music,and a prominent critic of former Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was acquitted.

Apple was accused of violating the EU's digital competition law,the Center for Investigative Reporting sued OpenAI and Microsoft over alleged copyright infringement,and several top music labels filed a lawsuit against two artificial intelligence (AI) song creators for suspected copyright violations.Meanwhile, SCOTUS rejected the Purdue Pharma opioid settlement,a former Boeing employee claimed he was fired after making safety-related complaints,and Walgreens announced plans to close a "significant" number of stores.
