Jack Keane is a retired four-star general who served as Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army from 1999 to 2003. A combat veteran of the Vietnam War, he commanded the 101st Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps, and played a pivotal role in developing the 2007 Iraq War "surge" strategy. Post-retirement, Keane has been a national security analyst, serving as chairman of the Institute for the Study of War and advising on defense policy. In 2020, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Donald Trump.
