French President Emmanuel Macron has announced formal approval to construct a new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to replace the Charles de Gaulle, which entered service in 2001. The decision to launch the construction program "was taken this week," Macron told French troops stationed in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
