A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture in northeastern Japan at approximately 11:15 p.m. local time on Monday at a depth of 54 kilometers (33.5 miles). The Japan Meteorological Agency reported at least 23 people were injured.
