Three empty buses exploded in quick succession in parking lots in Bat Yam, a southern suburb of Israel's Tel Aviv, on Thursday night. The Israeli police called it a "suspected terror attack" but said there have been no reports of casualties.
In addition, two explosive devices — containing approximately 5 kilograms of explosives and timers — were found on a bus in Holon and the outskirts of Tel Aviv. According to police, they were likely intended to detonate during Friday morning's rush hour.
Police reportedly discovered a written message referencing revenge from the West Bank city of Tulkarem on one of the devices. However, no group has directly claimed responsibility for the attack.
The timing and sophistication of the attack demonstrate a serious escalation in terrorist capabilities, requiring immediate and decisive military action to prevent future attacks and protect Israeli civilians. The incident proves that any perceived weakness in counter-terrorism efforts will be exploited by militant groups.
Without evidence, the planned military response in the West Bank is unjust and will lead to further displacement of Palestinian civilians and escalation of violence. The operation, which has already displaced 40K Palestinians, represents an excessive use of force that affects innocent civilians and infrastructure.
