The Spin

Democratic narrative

California Democrats had no choice but to fight fire with fire against Trump's blatant election rigging scheme in Texas. When Republicans openly gerrymander to gain congressional seats and rig the 2026 midterms, Democrats cannot sit back and allow democracy to be hijacked. This temporary measure protects California voters from being disenfranchised by partisan power grabs.

Republican narrative

Gov. Newsom has authorized a clear-as-day power grab, which shreds the independent commission that California created to ensure fairness and transparency in the state's elections. Out of sheer spite, the Democrats will waste hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars on a rushed special election while Californians struggle with crime, the cost-of-living, and homelessness.
