The timing of this election is strategic and necessary, especially as Prime Minister Carney doesn't have a seat in the House of Commons — and therefore would not able to debate the opposition. Canadians do see him as the best fit to deal with Trump, so it's only natural that Carney wants a clear mandate to lead the country.
It's no coincidence the Liberals want to call an election now that they have a leader whom most people still don't know very well and whose past and opinions haven't been thoroughly examined. But better late than never. After four long years, Canadians will have the chance to have their say in the most important election in a generation and finally get rid of the Liberal Party.
