This investigation is yet another attempt by Trump to strong-arm federal officials into stepping down, allowing him to reshape government agencies according to his personal agenda. If the DOJ is truly interested in uncovering so-called mortgage fraud, it should look in Trump's own cabinet, where at least three members have done the same thing that Cook stands accused of.

It's time for government officials to play by the same rules as average American citizens. Cook, who received preferential treatment on interest rates because of her lies, must be held accountable both by facing a DOJ investigation and losing her position at the Fed. The Biden administration may have looked past her lies, but the Trump administration can't let her off the hook.
