Asylum seeker at centre of Essex hotel protests jailed for 12 months
Guardian2 days
There is no doubt that justice has been rightfully served against Kebatu for his crimes. However, this does not mean the country should succumb to a violent far-right movement targeting innocent asylum seekers who have nothing to do with these crimes. One individual's criminal actions cannot excuse mass bigotry.
This case demonstrates exactly why communities are concerned about the U.K's current asylum policies. A dangerous predator arrived illegally by boat and, within days, was targeting children on the street. The current immigration system is perpetuating violence against young girls and the wider public, marking a grave betrayal of the British people.
