Though it may be an uncomfortable truth, Golan's comments are correct. Israel's war in Gaza has gone on far too long and only serves to destroy Gaza and its people at this point. Israel's extremist government is only further isolating the country, which could turn Israel into a pariah state like apartheid South Africa. For Israel to survive the coming years, the war must end.
Golan's comments were not only false but also serve the interests of Israel's enemies. Golan's blood libel will only feed Israel's detractors, embolden antisemites, and stain the reputation of a country fighting a war for its very survival. Such comments do not help end the war or ensure the release of the hostages. On the contrary, they serve to provoke strife in Israel and abroad.
Though the mainstream media is heralding Golan as a compassionate and peace-loving Israeli politician, the reality is that Golan is just as complicit in Gaza's genocide as Netanyahu. After Oct. 7, Golan advocated for Israel to starve Gaza to death to free the hostages, demonstrating the lack of legitimate opposition in Israel.
