The Spin

Republican narrative

This is judicial activism at its worst, with an unelected Obama appointee blocking the will of the American people who voted for secure borders. The TPS program has become a backdoor amnesty system that allows millions of unvetted migrants to remain indefinitely. Secretary Noem has every right to end these Biden-era extensions that were nothing more than political theater designed to circumvent proper immigration procedures.

Democratic narrative

This ruling stops the Trump administration from recklessly stripping legal protections and violating the basic due process rights of millions. Noem made these life-altering decisions without consulting relevant agencies or conducting a proper analysis of dangerous conditions in Venezuela and Haiti. This ruling upholds the rule of law and prevents the administration from sending people back to countries facing humanitarian crises.
