The Spin

Democratic narrative

This is a major victory for New York and all state governments. The Trump administration has overreached on this matter, creating a dangerous precedent for threats to state sovereignty. The federal government's decision to continue pursuing this case, though, puts infrastructure projects nationwide in jeopardy, so it's important that this injunction becomes permanent.

Republican narrative

This injunction is unfortunate but easily reversible. The federal government is well within its rights to end the congestion pricing program, which exceeds the scope of what federal authorities originally approved and unfairly burdens working drivers. The administration can terminate agreements based on changed agency priorities, especially when the program operates beyond its authorized parameters.
