The Spin

Republican narrative

Elon Musk must come to his senses and pivot away from third-party politics once and for all. The so-called America Party was always a vanity project stemming from his disagreement with Trump regarding the One Big Beautiful Bill, which spiraled out of control. The two-party system has its flaws, but smart money backs winners. Either Musk returns to support MAGA once more, or he will waste his resources to siphon off votes to the benefit of the Democrats.

Democratic narrative

The America Party is just the latest attempt from a rich egomaniac to enter politics by forming a new political party — and it's doomed to fail like all other previous bids to topple the two-party system. There's a lot of room to empower voters even in the current system, including supporting ranked choice voting, but Musk is falling into the third-party trap because his true goal is to garner some attention and political influence.

Establishment-critical narrative

Despite skepticism over the America Party, it's a matter of fact that a well-funded third party may break the dysfunctional two-party stranglehold and offer real solutions to fiscal problems both parties have created. Musk has the resources and platform to build something that could force better governance through competition, even without winning outright, and reduce polarization.
