Elon Musk and his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are "going to plug in to help upgrade our aviation system," US Department of Transport Secretary Sean Duffy announced on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.
Sharing the post, Musk wrote that with the support of Pres. Donald Trump, the DOGE team will "aim to make rapid safety upgrades to the air traffic control system."
The announcement came after Duffy revealed over the weekend that the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) "Notice to Air Missions" computer system — a system that alerts pilots about conditions that could affect the safety of their flights — experienced an outage.
With the support of Trump, Musk and his DOGE team will make the much-needed upgrades and improvements to the FAA's aviation systems. Just last week, the system crashed and led to dozens of cancellations.
Most of the people on DOGE aren't old enough to rent a car and have no experience in aviation. Is it really right that they can tinker with something as complicated as aviation?
