The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) launched a new website on Wednesday that allows users to track federal spending and employee data but appears to have inadvertently published classified information about the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).
According to the Huffington Post, the website exposed classified personnel data and budget details of the NRO — responsible for building and launching US surveillance satellites.
Additionally, within days of its launch, hackers appeared to successfully breach the website's security, defacing at least two pages and posting prank messages that read "This is a joke of a .gov site" and "THESE 'EXPERTS' LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN—roro."
The DOGE website represents an unprecedented effort to boost government transparency and allow citizens to trace their tax dollars through the bureaucracy. Musk vows to create the most transparent organization possible while working to reshape federal bureaucracy and the agency is committed to improving accuracy over time.
The exposure of classified intelligence data by inexperienced programmers demonstrates dangerous incompetence in handling sensitive government information, potentially compromising national security and raising serious questions about how DOGE obtained this classified information in the first place.
