The Spin

Right narrative

These prosecutions represented a clear case of the political weaponization of the justice system against Trump supporters. The government fabricated evidence, violated constitutional rights, and used novel legal theories to criminalize political opposition. Trump's pardons vindicated these patriots who were unjustly persecuted for exercising their First Amendment rights.

Left narrative

The Jan. 6 prosecutions were legitimate criminal cases based on extensive evidence of seditious conspiracy and violence against law enforcement. Settling with convicted extremists would reward political violence and undermine the rule of law. These defendants were fairly convicted by juries after due process for serious crimes that threatened American democracy.
