The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Trump wants Iran to be prosperous — but under no conditions can it have nuclear weapons. Negotiations to that end are being pursued but military actions, in which Israel would play a role, will be taken if that is necessary.

Pro-Iran narrative

Iran is in favor of an agreement that would be a win-win for both countries. However, contradictory statements from U.S. officials are threatening the negotiation process, particularly on the issue of enrichment which is non-negotiable from the Iranian position.

Pro-Israel narrative

Given that Iran's anti-aircraft and missile defense systems were severely degraded last year, this is the ideal time to strike and debilitate the regime's nuclear facilities. Israel is not only fearful that talks will lead to a bad deal, but that a drawn-out negotiation gives Iran the time to regroup and lessen the impact of future military action.
