Supreme Court takes up challenge to Colorado conversion therapy ban
NBC
Lower courts that ruled for Colorado used the wrong legal standard. The government should never be allowed to censor private conversations between willing clients and counselors based on viewpoint disagreement. The Colorado ban violates fundamental free speech rights and prevents young people from receiving the care they actively seek.
Overturning this ban would further limit protections for members of the LGBTQ+ community who've been targeted by numerous executive orders since the start of the Trump administration. States have long-standing authority to regulate medical practices to protect patients from harmful professional conduct and Colorado's ban should remain in place.
