The Spin

Anti-China narrative

Taiwan's military buildup is not an act of provocation but a necessary deterrent against an increasingly aggressive neighbor with predatory intentions toward the island. China should act with the responsibility its position demands as a global power, and renounce its claim to Taiwan, so the two countries can live peacefully side-by-side.

Pro-China narrative

Despite protests across the strait, Taiwan remains an inalienable part of China's territory, as confirmed by UN Resolution 2758 and international law. No amount of posturing, therefore, will prevent China's reunification. As such, the separatist forces should cease their military preparations, as this will only meaninglessly escalate tensions in the region.
