Santos was just a rogue politician, but plenty of rogues don't get seven years in prison. Democrat Senator Blumenthal completely fabricated his Vietnam War service for decades, claiming he was a hero who saw combat when he never even went to Vietnam. Santos, at least, had the courage always to vote Republican and has been horribly mistreated in solitary confinement.

Santos stole from people and committed wire fraud, identity theft and money laundering — serious crimes that demanded accountability. Instead, Trump has turned commutations and pardons into a partisan game where voting Republican becomes a get-out-of-jail-free card. This decision sticks a finger in the eye of justice and shows complete disregard for holding criminals accountable.
