The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

This pardon proves the president only cares about protecting Republican allies who commit crimes. Casada stole taxpayer money through a fake company scheme and resigned in disgrace after scandals involving racist texts and cocaine use. This follows Trump's pattern of pardoning criminals who are useful to him while ignoring justice.

Pro-Trump narrative

The Biden DOJ massively over-prosecuted Casada and Cothren for a minor issue that harmed no one. Armed raids and 10-year prison sentences for competitive-priced constituent services represents the worst kind of political weaponization. Trump rightfully corrected this injustice just like he did for other victims of the Democrat's lawfare.
